A method, not a style.

Ruma Atelier is a small interiors practice based in George Town. We work primarily on residential and hospitality projects across Peninsular Malaysia, with occasional commissions further afield.

Our work begins with the building. Whether the brief is a 1920s shophouse or a new-build in the hills above Balik Pulau, the existing structure — its proportions, its weather, its history — sets the terms. We are not a style. We are a method.

Material decisions are slow on purpose. We prefer one well-considered surface to a stack of fashionable ones. Cengal, lime plaster, terrazzo, brushed steel, woven rattan — recurring not because we have a look, but because they age in ways the climate respects.

We are not the right studio for clients who need a quick turnaround, a signature aesthetic to copy, or someone to manage twelve projects at once. We take on six commissions a year. We answer the phone.
